Report an invasive species
Protect California agriculture and your environment by letting us know if you see a new or unusual plant or pest in your area.
What to know
What to do
1. Take a photo
If possible, take photos of the plant or pest. Include a common object in the photo for size comparison. Take photos of the surrounding environment and key landmarks so we can identify the site.
2. Collect a sample
You can collect a sample of the specimen to help identify it. Write down the location and date that you collected the sample. Keep the sample secure so it does not spread.
3. Make a report
You can play an important role in protecting the environment and California agriculture by reporting plants or pests that might be a new invasive species in San Francisco.
To report a pest:
- Call the City Agriculture Program at 415-252-3830
- Call the CDFA Pest Hotline at 1-800-491-1899
- Call 311
You can also fill out the California Department of Food & Agriculture (CDFA) Report a Pest Sighting Form online and submit email it to reportapest@cdfa.ca.gov.
