Health Advisory Increase In Mpox Cases Among SF Residents
As of August 30th, 2023 there have been 7 mpox cases among SF residents in the last five weeks. The DPH Population Health Division has compiled informational resources for how to best respond to the presence of mpx in San Francisco. Look here for information on vaccines, and recommended protective actions to avoid mpox infection.
Aptima Multitest swabs acceptable for chlamydia and gonorrhea testing
On January 19, 2021, the San Francisco Public Health Laboratory begun accepting patient-collected rectal and pharyngeal (throat) swab specimens for chlamydia and gonorrhea TMA testing (NAAT) using the Aptima® Multitest Swab Specimen Collection Kit. Updates about the Herpes Simplex Virus 1/2 assay
On November 29th, 2021, the San Francisco Public Health Laboratory changed the assay used for differentiating Herpes Simplex Virus 1/2 from HSV PCR to HSV TMA. Please review the following letter for more details: HSV 1/2 TMA Letter.
Multitest swabs approved for use with rectal and throat sources
On May 23rd, 2019, Hologic, the manufacturer of our nucleic acid amplification test (NAAT) for the detection of sexually transmitted infections, received FDA approval for the use of the Multitest Swab Specimen Collection Kit for throat and rectal specimen sources.
