Appeal to the Building Inspection Commission
Appeals to the Building Inspection Commission must be filed within 15 days of the issuance of a determination.
What to know
Appeal types
You can:
- Appeal a determination made by the Director of the San Francisco Department of Building Inspection
- Ask for the Building Inspection Commission to accept a late filing of appeal (request for jurisdiction)
- Ask for a new hearing of the appeal (re-hearing)
- Request for suspension of action
Cost
- The cost to appeal a determination made by the Director of the San Francisco Department of Building Inspection is $800.
- The cost for a rehearing, or to ask for a new hearing of the appeal, is $400.
- A check should be made payable to the San Francisco Department of Building Inspection.
What to do
1. Complete the appeal application
Follow the instructions on the first page.
We will ask you for the following information:
- The type of appeal you are filing
- Name, contact information, and filing date
- Date of the determination that was made by the Director of the San Francisco Department of Building Inspection
- Property address, with number of units and guest rooms
- Building permit, application, complaint, or notice-of-violation number
- Nature of the determination being appealed and code section under which the determination was made
- Basis for the appeal, including how the Director erred in their determination
- Signature
2. Give us your application and payment
Include:
- Appeal application
- Payment - if using check, make it payable to the "San Francisco Department of Building Inspection"
You can mail or drop off your package at our office.
