CCHP Dental Screening

For children ages 0 to 5

What to know

What it is:

A dental screening is a simple visual check of the mouth and teeth.  It does not use sharp instruments or take the place of an exam at a dental office.

How it's done:

  • We check the teeth with a light and mouth mirror.
  • If we have permission, we brush a sticky, fluoride varnish on the child's teeth. This protects them from cavities and will come off later.
  • We sing songs, use puppets, and give stickers to make it fun for the children.
  • Parents/guardians receive a letter with the screening results.
  • If we find dental problems, CCHP can help connect families to the needed dental care.
