Villy Wang
Founder, President and CEO of BAYCAT
As President of the SF Film Commission and Founder, President & CEO of BAYCAT (Bayview Hunters Point Center for Arts and Technology), Villy has dedicated her life to changing the film and media ecosystem through storytelling to bring greater equity, diversity, and inclusion, especially young BIPOC, women, transgender or non-binary storytellers in the tech, media, and creative industries.
Villy is a TED speaker and has shared her story with audiences globally. She has been featured on Forbes 7x7, is a Bay Area Jefferson Award winner, and was named one of 2017’s Most Influential Women in Bay Area Business and 2021’s Most Admired CEO by SF Business Times.
With extensive experience as a banker, lawyer, educator, filmmaker, producer, nonprofit leader, and Commissioner, Villy’s work has impacted both individuals and at systemic level. She is an avid collaborator, connector, and thought partner with those who are value-aligned and eager to reimagine liberation together through the power of storytelling.
She founded BAYCAT to create greater social equity by changing the stories that get told and the storytellers who get to tell them.
Villy earned a double BA in Engineering and Economics from Brown University, a JD degree from Northwestern University, and her teaching credential from San Francisco State University. Villy is a Leadership San Francisco alumna, class of 2008.
