What to do when you're currently on probation
Follow the steps to help you succeed in your probation.
What's probation?
Probation is a suspended state prison or county jail sentence. In other words, instead of doing time in custody, you have been given an opportunity to go back to your community provided you follow some specific conditions. All probation sentences are different; however, there are some standard conditions that apply to most if not all persons placed on probation.
Call the probation department
Contact the Probation Department as soon as you are released from custody. If you are released after 5:00pm, call the next day.
- Hours: Monday to Friday, 8:00am to 5:00pm
- Phone: (628) 652-2100
- Address: 945 Bryant St., San Francisco, CA 94103
Tell us about yourself
When you contact our department, tell us your full name, date of birth, SF# or your court number, if you know it. Our support staff will be able to give you the name and phone number of your assigned probation officer.
Go to your appointment
Your probation officer will schedule an appointment to meet with you. Keep your appointment and be on time. If you cannot make your appointment, please notify your probation officer to re-schedule.
Take advantage of the support and services we offer
The Court has placed you on probation to give you an opportunity to restore your life. Your probation officer will guide you towards counseling, and/or therapeutic programs designed to help you succeed in the community.
