About Assisted Outpatient Treatment (AOT) or "Laura's Law"
San Francisco offers community-based services that give people struggling with mental illness the option to seek voluntary treatment. If intervention is necessary, the Assisted Outpatient Treatment (AOT) program (or Laura’s Law) can help.
The goal of this program is to provide intensive outpatient services to people who need it to improve their quality of life. AOT can also prevent decompensation and cycling through acute services (e.g., psychiatric hospitalization) and incarceration.
