If you need help paying for food, you may be eligible for CalFresh. 

A family of 3 could get up to $509/month for groceries to spend at the grocery store, farmers market, and starting next month, online.

Go to a food pantry

Pop-up pantries may be able to help you quickly, while you apply for CalFresh or other benefits. If you don’t qualify for other food assistance programs, pop-up pantries can provide food for you and your family. 

Pop-up pantries don’t require an ID or any documentation to access.  Seniors enrolled in pantries may be able to sign up for home delivered groceries.

Sign up for WIC (Women, Infants and Children) food benefits

WIC helps families by providing:

  • Nutrition education
  • Breastfeeding support
  • WIC card to purchase healthy foods at the grocery store
  • Referrals to healthcare and other community services

WIC serves babies and children up to age 5, pregnant women, and new mothers. Dads, grandparents, foster parents of young children, and working families can also apply.

For older adults and people with disabilities

  • Home-delivered meals
  • Emergency food boxes
  • Support with online food delivery services
  • Grocery drop-off from volunteers

For immigrants

Pop up pantries don’t require an ID or any documentation to access. Find free food and groceries at the SF Marin Food Bank

Visit the Mission Food Hub at 701 Alabama Street. It provides culturally appropriate groceries for Latinx families and individuals in need of food support. Groceries can be picked up Monday, Wednesday, and Friday 10 to 3pm. Mission Food Hub also provides free COVID-19 testing Thursdays, 10am to 3pm. You can call them at 415-206-0577.

Pick up meals at San Francisco schools

Students and families can pick up grab-and-go meals at many SFUSD school sites. Meals are available on Tuesdays for SFUSD students and siblings under age 18. On Thursday, free meals are available for all children 18 and younger.

Emergency food benefit for students

Students who are eligible for free or reduced-price meals can get a food benefit called Pandemic EBT (P-EBT) for the months their school is closed. Families will get up to $365 per eligible child on their P-EBT card to use for food and groceries, just like a debit card. This benefit is in addition to their pick-up meals from the school.

Call 24 hours a day, 7 days a week if you are:

  • Diagnosed as infected with COVID-19
  • Waiting for test results 
  • Are quarantining because you are a close contact with someone who tested positive for COVID-19
