Stay 6 feet apart: Physical distancing
When you go out, stay 6 feet apart from other people.
What to know
What to do
Staying home is the best way to not get yourself or others sick. But if you leave your home:
- Avoid crowds
- Wear a mask that covers your mouth and nose
- Keep 6 feet between you and everyone else at all times
- Minimize how long you spend with people who don’t live with you
Avoid running or biking directly in front of or through groups of people. When you exercise outdoors, you may spread droplets farther than normal.

At your home
You do not need to stay 6 feet apart from people you live with.
Avoid spending time in community lounges and other common spaces in your building.
Limit the number of people coming into your home, including cleaning and delivery workers. See guidance about hiring in-home services during the pandemic.

At the store or public places
When you are out of your home at stores, pharmacies, outdoor markets, or getting healthcare:
- Keep 6 feet of distance between you and others in a line
- Wear a mask that covers your nose and mouth
- Avoid passing others in an aisle, if you can
- Give the people who serve you as much room (and patience) as you can
If you notice a service provider has symptoms of cold or flu, move away from them. Their supervisor may ask that they go home.
