PROFILE
Marco Senghor
Marco Senghor is the founder and owner of Bissap Baobab, a Senegalese and African restaurant in the Mission District. An immigrant of French and Senegalese descent, Marco came to the United States in 1989 to study and create better economic and personal circumstances for himself.
He was drawn to San Francisco, and the Mission District in particular, due to the diverse and global social fabric that keeps the neighborhood and city together. Since coming to the United States, Marco has become a leader in the African community, taking part in advocacy efforts with the African Advocacy Network, or using his restaurant as a community space.
Commissioner Senghor hopes to serve the immigrant communities of San Francisco by fighting for equity in opportunity and experience. He wants San Francisco to be a city that is welcoming and celebratory of its many immigrant populations, and is proud to be a member of the Immigrants Rights Commission.
