Apply for the Debt Reduction Program
If you're late on paying child support, find out if you're eligible for a program to lower your payments.
What to know
For parents who:
- Are overdue in making child support payments
- Have a child who received public assistance or were in foster care at a time you did not pay
This program can:
- Lower the amount you have to pay back to the state for programs that supported your children's care
What to do
1. Check whether you're eligible
You may be eligible if:
- You have child support debt (arrears) from a time when your child or children were receiving public assistance (welfare or foster care)
- You can't pay off the debt within 12 months, based on your current income and assets
