Report garbage containers that are overflowing, spilling out, or residential toters left out a day after collection.

Qué saber

Response time

Usually between 2 hours to 3 days. Adding or removing a garbage can may take up to 20 days.

Litter receptables

The City maintains about 3,500 litter receptacles throughout the city, placed along busy commercial corridors, plazas, bus stops, and parks. Learn more on Public Work's website.

To report a missed street cleaning route, use a different form instead

1. Fill out a form

Describe the issue you want to report. 

We will need:

  • The location
  • Nature of request

Include a photo to assist with identification and response. 

2. Track your case

After you report, you will get a tracking number from 311. You can use this number, and your email address if provided, to track your case online or on the SF311 mobile app

Expected response time

Inspection times listed in calendar days.

  • Transit shelter or platform: 3 days
  • Add or remove garbage can: 20 days
  • Damaged garbage can: 3 days
  • Overflowing garbage can: 2 hours
  • Toter left out: varies
