Dream Keeper Initiative
African Americans experience wealth and income inequalities compared to other groups. The Dream Keeper Initiative is San Francisco’s plan to change this for Black people in our community.
Funding
First year funds will go to:
- Brighter Futures, Family and Community, $10,560,315
- Economic Mobility, $33,923,886
- Education and Enrichment, $8,234,799
- Health and Wellness, $4,375,000
- Mini-grants, $2,906,000

History
On June 4, 2020, Mayor London N. Breed and Supervisor Shamann Walton announced they would reallocate a portion of the San Francisco Police Department's budget to invest in San Francisco’s Black community.
Mayor Breed and Supervisor Walton invited community members to share their ideas and input on the reallocation of funding in a process facilitated by the San Francisco Human Rights Commission (HRC).
