Apply for a small business grant to help you understand and plan for accessibility improvements
This grant will pay for an inspection of your storefront from a Certified Access Specialist or licensed architect and help small businesses required by landlords to comply with the San Francisco Accessible Business Entrance program.
What to know
Program timeline
Applications will be closed on June 30, 2022 at 5 PM. Applicants will be notified on a rolling basis of their application status.
Grant amount
Businesses can receive:
- Up to $1,000 for CASp inspections to comply with the City's Accessible Business Entrance Program
- Up to $3,000 for full CASp inspection of place of business
What to do
1. Check if your business is eligible
Your business must:
- Be registered in San Francisco
- Have less than $2.5M in gross revenue
- Be required by your landlord to comply with the San Francisco Accessible Business Entrance (ABE) program
- Be a place of public accommodation (open to the public)
- Be located on the ground floor in an existing building
- Not have a pending lawsuit
Your business must also meet at least 1 of these requirements:
- Have been previously sued for access violations or business with a prior access complaint from the public or disabled persons or
- Be located in an Invest In Neighborhoods Opportunity Neighborhood commercial corridor or Cultural District or
- Have an owner from a low or extremely-low income household or
- Be a non-profit
2. Gather information for the application
We will ask you for:
- Your business address
- Whether your gross revenue is $2.5 million or less
- Whether your business has a pending lawsuit regarding accessibility
- You will need a completed W-9 (download a blank version of the form here) and an invoice indicating you have paid for an accessibility inspection (read more information on hiring an access professional).
3. Gather your family income
Review information to determine whether at least one owner is from a low or extremely-low income household.
4. Apply
The deadline for applications is June 30, 2022 at 5:00 PM PST.
