Legal versus illegal posters

The public may post information on some utility poles if the postings follow regulations outlined in Article 5.6 of the Public Works Code. The law was adopted to ensure that flyers posted on public property do not contribute to litter or blight. Lean more on Public Works' website. 

What to do

If the problem involves graffiti or vandalism, file a different report. 

1. Fill out a form

Describe the illegal posting you want to report. 

We will need to know:

  • The location
  • Nature of request
  • If the posting is on the whole block

Include a photo to assist with identification and response. 

2. Track your case

After you report, you will get a tracking number from 311. You can use this number, and your email address if provided, to track your case online or on the SF311 mobile app

Expected response time 

3 calendar days for all illegal postings, including:

  • Attached improperly
  • Multiple postings
  • No posting date
  • Posted on directional
  • Posted on historic street light
  • Posted over 70 days
  • Posting too High on pole
  • Posting too Large in size
