Work part-time, flexible hours for the Census Bureau in San Francisco.

Submit your application as soon as you can. Census jobs are temporary and will last for several weeks.

What to do

1. See if you can apply

To be eligible for a 2020 Census job, you must:

  • Be at least 18 years old

  • Have a valid Social Security number

  • Have a valid email address

  • Be available to work flexible hours, including days, evenings, and weekends

You must also:  

  • Be registered with the Selective Service System or have a valid exemption

  • Pass a criminal background check and a review of criminal records, including fingerprinting

  • Complete the required training

  • You may also need to take an English proficiency test

2. Fill out an application online

Create an account with the Census Bureau online.

For the application, you need your:

  • Social Security number 

  • Home address 

  • Email address 

  • Phone number 

  • Date and place of birth

Answer questions about your education, work, and other experience. The application will take 30 minutes to complete. 

After you apply

After you submit your application, someone will call you for a phone interview. The Census Bureau will send job offers about 60 days or less before the job training. 

If you are offered a job, you will need to submit your fingerprints and pass a background check.
